Light Yagami is an extremely intelligent young man who resents the crime and corruption in the world. His life undergoes a drastic change when he discovers a mysterious notebook, known as the "Death Note", lying on the ground. Light is initially skeptical of the notebook's authenticity, but after experimenting with it, Light realizes that the Death Note is real. This is ONe of the worst animes I have ever seen in all my years of life. L is the biggest peice of cow gentials I have ever layed my butt on. And dont even get me started with Light yagadouchebag. He is the whinnest character i ever saw. Missa is the only character who held this show together for me.

A fantastic show, but quite complex. The people who've rated the show down, likely didn't quite understand the implications of it and prefer to watch things like Beyblade or Pokemon. Back to the point - this show's plot is quite deep, you have to think of the ideals behind such a thing, and Kira's slow descent into insanity. Ofc, not everyone will agree with this, but if you actually watch it, instead of whinging about it, then you might just be impressed. *GASP* OH NOES!

for ever reaction comes with a positive/ negative reaction Kira trying to create the perfect utopia creates an unbalance. Plus I see his point of killing criminals but he didn't have to kill the inmates if there doing there time. Just kill off the ones that get away with it or parole, early release. But he didn't have to kill the FBI or innocent bystanders hes no different from the bad guys. Muwahahaha damn u Kira...

it would been better if light n L didnt die. :)like no other anime must own dvd.
id give this anime a 4 out of 10, first off the main character isnt likeable at all, and the last few episodes he turns straight up annoying. it starts out above average then around episode 20-25 a major shift in the storyline happens and its never as good from there out. i wouldnt recommend this to anyone.....go watch a better anime like claymore.
great anime,one of the best ever made. i think you will only like this if you r somewhat intellectual, if not it will not appeal 2 u as the ideals and topics will be lost on u. instead watch pokemon where it is all so simple

To be honest, on an intelectual bases. I still think Code Geass takes it!
Thought the story and characters (most of them) were great in this series. Misa was annoying more than half the time, and Matsu was even more annoying all the time. The series lost some interest when L died, but they managed to keep it going. N and Mello were a bit annoying as L's replacements, though.
too all the posters that are saying the people that don't like this are stupid and didn't understand the story thats a pretty close minded comment from you. I understood this story perfectly well. I didn't like most of the characters and thought it was slow. After L dies you have to sit through a ton of filler episodes that can put you to sleep. this is the most overrated anime ive ever seen.
